ArtNet Lighting Protocol & Unifi

ArtNet is a form of DMX over IP and it is simple to use and reliable.

Keep in mind that the host device is broadcasting the data across the network with no specific device targeted. For this to work properly, make sure IGMP Snooping is disabled for Unifi. ArtNet is low bandwidth and there is not a concern of flooding the network with IGMP Snooping disabled.

For receive devices, I’ve had really good luck with the Enttec ODE MK2. They are cost effective and POE powered.

I have multiple receivers on the network and running multiple universes in parallel, and they perform with hardly any intervention. I have units that have been running 1+ year without being touched.

The only small quirk I’ve found is that you need to be on the same subnet for firmware updates.

If you need basic lighting console or installed control, check out the Cognitgo2 and Choreo lighting controllers by Pathway Connectivity. I use the traditional Congnito2 console for the studio, and the Choreo installed panel for room control. Both output DMX & ArtNet and the two units are interchangeable depending on your needs. You can program on the desktop console and transfer the file to the installed controller for ease of setup.
